Copper thickness:
A standard PCB’s copper layer thickness is typically 1 to 2 ounces per square foot (oz/ft²), which equates to a thickness of approximately 35-70 microns.
Thick copper PCBs have significantly thicker copper layers, typically 3 oz/sq ft to 12 oz/sq ft or more, which equates to a thickness of 105-420 microns.

Power handling capability:
Increased copper thickness enables thick copper PCBs to handle higher current and power levels without excessive heat build-up or voltage drops.
This makes them ideal for power-intensive applications such as power supplies, motor drives and high-current electronic systems.

Thermal management:
Thicker copper layers act as effective heat sinks, improving heat dissipation from heating components on the PCB.
